Cur­rent­ly, Susa lives in Espoo, but the years spent in Joen­suu make the city par­ticu­lar­ly impor­tant to her. Howe­ver, this time, she didn’t tra­vel alo­ne. Her mot­her joi­ned her, as she was on a win­ter holi­day, and Susa wan­ted to sha­re this special expe­rience with her.

Diver­se acti­vi­ties and expe­riences

The week in Joen­suu offe­red many new expe­riences that Susa hadn’t yet tried during her stu­dent years. Back then, her days were main­ly revol­ving around stu­dies and work, but the Test Joen­suu ‑week pro­vi­ded an oppor­tu­ni­ty to try a varie­ty of new acti­vi­ties.

Susa’s work­days took place in Tie­de­puis­to, whe­re she desc­ri­bed the atmosp­he­re as relaxed, and people met each other with joy. In the cowor­king space at Tie­de­puis­to, even stran­gers felt like col­lea­gues. After work­days, the eve­nings were fil­led with events and acti­vi­ties.

– We tried refor­mer pila­tes! I had real­ly been loo­king forward to it and wan­ted to try it, Susa says. The expe­rience at Pila­tes Joen­suu was memo­rable, and both Susa and her mot­her tho­rough­ly enjo­yed it.

Living at Penttilä’s Light­house made an impres­sion with its stun­ning views, and the envi­ron­ment of Pie­lis­jo­ki has been a favo­ri­te of Susa’s since her stu­dent years.

– I always loved wal­king along the river, she says. During the week, they enjo­yed seve­ral walks along the river, and Susa says she could stay for hours just loo­king at the beau­ti­ful sce­ne­ry of the Pie­lis­jo­ki.

In Joen­suu, Susa par­ticu­lar­ly apprecia­tes the com­pact­ness of the city and the ease of get­ting around on foot, whi­le get­ting fresh air and move­ment for the body. During her stu­dent years, she cycled a lot from place to place, and now she noticed how popu­lar cycling is in Joen­suu, even in win­ter.

Joen­suu had a relaxed and warm atmosp­he­re, which furt­her strengt­he­ned Susa’s posi­ti­ve ima­ge of the city. She also noticed how ver­sa­ti­le the acti­vi­ties are in Joen­suu, with somet­hing for eve­ry­one.
